Last night was a great sports night filled with pure exuberation, due to the fact that my team allegiances are unorthodox to say the least. My Bruins beat the Sabres in double overtime and the Yankees took the A’s to task with a 3-1 win. Did I forget to mention that Phil Hughes threw 7 innings of no-hit ball? That was pretty exciting too! (more…)

NYY 6, Bos 4

W: Aceves (1-0) L: Okajima (1-1) S: Rivera (1)

HR: NYY: Cano (1), Bos: Martinez (1)

As far as thrilling games go, last night’s was a nail biter with the end result and winning run being scored because of a uncharicteristic error by Marco Scutaro followed by an even more baffling walk by Okajima to Nick Johnson (with the bases loaded). Through all the excitement and multiple lead changes one would want an ending suited for the game, but Cano’s Home Run came too late for that fairy tale to come true.

Cano's blast in the 9th gives Mo some un-needed breathing room to close the door on the Yankees first win of the year

Hi Everyone!

If you are reading this, THANK YOU for following me even though I have been extremely busy at work and now I finally have a second to write an entry. But let’s be honest there hasn’t really been anything to “RANT” about lately, the Yankees are on fire and are running away with the AL East. The team has become everything that all Yankee fans expected, a dominate force in the AL East and a team that can win any game at any time. (more…)

Unfortunately the Aceves test was a failure. It was clear that he was nervous and had no control over his pitches, or his throws to first base, as seen in the bottom of the 2nd when he threw away a pickoff attempt to first base when Cuddyer was sleeping while taking a lead. It wasn’t a complete failure though, this kid clearly has good stuff he just has to finish the transition into a starter, if the Yankees choose to go down that route. Overall he kept the team in the game only giving up 3 earned, however the Yankees expected a lot more than just 3.1 innings pitched, especially with such a big series coming up in Anaheim against the Angels, and a struggling Joba on the mound tonight, they would have liked to get the bullpen some more rest. If you have been following Pettitte at home this year then you might have joined me in a sigh of relief yesterday as he put up his best outting at home since his 2 run performance against the Rays on June 8th (that start was sandwiched between two terrible starts, one against the Rangers and one against the Mets…both loses). Andy looked great yesterday and showed the Yankee fans what we have, pretty much, only seen on tv this year during his away game starts, giving us 7 innings with 2 earned and a hit/walk per inning…I would call that a great game. And I have to put my foot in my mouth because yesterday I was very skeptical in how Andy would perform at home and the Yankees ability to win a tight game with Washburn on the mound. I was proven wrong and I am glad to admit it and the Yankees now own a 7 game winning streak and are on the brink of a potential sweep. It’s good to see the Yanks beating the opponents they should beat, that’s what makes championship teams. But they do have to figure out how to beat the Red Saux. (more…)

Who would’ve thunk it…Mariano throws out the first pitch and it wasn’t even from the mound!!! I guess he was afraid of bouncing the ball LOL…I’m obviously just kidding…but its good to see him honored in his home ball park for his milestone accomplishment…Congrats again Mo! Now on to last night and a very interesting game (to say the least) and one I was certainly not expecting at all…Seattle, a team not known for it’s scoring, put up an offensive fight last night against a high scoring, high powered Yankee team who eventually landed the K.O. punch to the Mariners in the bottom half of the 8th (Seattle tied the game in the top half after a MOONSHOT by Arod in the 7th)…Joba, once again, has disappointed me and now I am almost completely in agreeance that he should be the 8th inning guy, and possibly sliding Hughes back into the rotation. The problem is that Girardi and Cashman WANT Joba in the rotation so as long as he keeps the Yanks in the game and gives them 5+ innings every start, they are happy with that…especially if the bullpen can keep performing the way they are. Well this can be a very interesting series for the Yankees…but another one that they should win…but traditionally they struggle with the team from Seattle…and they are actually playing surprisingly well and have some pop on the team too…look out for Russel Branyan this guy is a monster….slugging 19 homeruns with 10 of them coming at the UN HITTERS FRIENDLY Safeco Field…the scary part is that he is a lefty coming into this ballpark and we all know how fast the balls fly out to right in the New Yankee Stadium…should be very interesting to see how they handle him…Another scary point is that we are sending 2 pitchers that have not been performing well, at all, at home…Joba tonite and Pettitte tomorrow…these guys need to show up, this series is wayyyyy to important and Boston is looking like they should at least take 2 of 3 from the O’s. WOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOO!!!! WOW!!! What a great victory!!! And if it wasn’t for Joba hitting a ball up the middle, and taking out Kawakami who knows…the Yanks might have gotten “Perfect Gamed”…as my friend John Sterling put it many times last night. And just when I start to have my doubts about Joba being a starter…”He goes and does something like this…and TOTALLY redeems himself.”…sorry Dumb and Dumber moment. Well maybe not completely…the fact that he couldn’t get out of the bottom of the 7th hurts him a little bit…but everyone has to admit he did look great yesterday…even with him facing two pitchers combining for a perfect game gone no hitter after a Brett Gardner walk in the 6th…I’ll get back to that soon. But I was impressed with Joba’s poise and confidence on the mound yesterday (more…)

Well there is really only one word to describe the way the Yankees have played as of late…and that is PATHETIC!!! This is the 3rd series in a row where they are facing a team they have a distinct advantage over and now they drop the first and most crucial game of this series. The worst part about it? Wang looked good again!!! And this guy can’t buy a win…or even a no decision! He pitched well his last two starts and the Yankee bats are turning into the Mets when Santana is on the hill…except right now you can’t hope to score 1 run…I KNOW THE YANKEES GOT SHUT OUT!…and win the game with Wang on the hill…where is the offense? Hanson pitched okay last night…but he didn’t have shut out stuff…calling all Yankee hitters…when you get 10 guys on base off of a starter…especially a rookie!!! YOU HAVE TO SCORE!!!! What are you guys doing??? (more…)
